Fairygodboss of the Week Amy Richardson-Golia Amy Richardson-Golia started June January with the dream of quitting zu sichbei 9 to 5 and spending more time with her first baby. That dream turned into a multi-million dollar company with staff in three time zones (who all benefit from flexible work schedules).Richardson-Golia says she was born bossy, but she has learned a lot about zulaufning a business along the way. She recently shared her best career tips, how women can stay confident and how she manages an entire team via text message.Fairygodboss of the Week Amy Richardson-GoliaFounder and CEO, June JanuaryProvo, UtahTell us a little about your career. How did you get to where you are now?Frankly, by accident I started the business with a small goal in mind of being able to quit my real job and ansturm a baby brand full time, thinking Id have more free time to spend with my then not-even-born-yet first baby. Everything since then that I have achieved has been icing on the cake. Truthfully, most of the journey has been about refusing to quit. I couldnt wrap my head around the idea of going to work for someone else anymore, so I had to just keep my head down and work hard. What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?Our entire team is remote we span 7 different states and work in all 3 time zones, yet we manage to run a multi-million dollar business via text message. Because a flexible schedule was what really made me to want to run my own business in the first place, I love that our team can work from home and have that same flexibility. Its not often that anyone who works for JJ has to choose between school pick-up or working. What is a challenge that youve faced and overcome?Ha See above our entire team is remote we span 7 different states and work in all 3 time zones. As the company has scaled, it has been difficult to coordinate phone calls and brainstorming sessions, but it has been especially difficult to recognize who is overworked or underworked , who can bring more to the table with their skill set, etc. Right now, we have really got a great system set up and things are so smooth for the first time in foreverWho is YOUR Fairygodboss? and Why?I really love and admire Jeni Britton Bauer, the founder of Jenis Ice Creams. The empire she has built by doing things her own way is just incredible. I love that she is so passionate about her brand and how clear their vision is. Plus, I just really love her ice cream. If you could have dinner with one famous persondead or alivewho would it be?Larry David. I could only assume that would be enough entertainment to last a lifetime.Lightning Round What is your go-to karaoke song?Bohemian RhapsodyLightning Round What is your favorite movie?Home AloneLightning Round What book would you bring with you on a desert island?Bossy Pants by Tina FeyLightning Round What is your shopping vice? What would you buy if you won the lottery?Expensive, artisanal nut butters. No, Im not kidding. Ive spent a small fortune on them. What is the 1 career tip youd like to share with other women who want to have successful careers like you?Ive noticed a lot of women have a tendency to dumb themselves down, sell themselves short and straight up deny their successes, achievements and how bad-ass they really are (myself included, I cant tell you how many times I have told a vendor or partner I have no clue what Im doing). There seems to be an idea among women that if we praise and celebrate ourselves that we are conceded or self absorbed or some other nonsense. So, I guess my advice would be to knock it the heck off. Be proud of yourself. Why do you love where you work?Im an only child and basically was born bossy. I love being in charge. Beyond that, I love the women we work with, and we have amazing customersFairygodboss is all about women helping other women - so each week, we celebrate a woman who made a difference in another womans career. Is there a woman who has made a difference in your career? Celebrate her and thank her by nominating her here.
